Snow Creating Problems For High School Baseball

Recent snow fall and weather has created problems for the Meeker High School baseball team. Games on April 12th and 14th have been cancelled because of the weather. The Cowboys have been forced to having nothing but indoor practice for the majority of the week.  When the players are allowed to play outside, the field must be dragged and bases must be replaced. Will the baseball team have weather to actually have a outdoor game this season?

Meeker Cowboys Baseball Turns Around!!

The big rumor around Meeker High School’s baseball team was that they may not come back after last year’s 0-18 losing streak. After a bunch of hard work and determination, the Meeker Cowboys won 3 out of the 4 games they played in Denver. Meeker lost twice to Fruita High School. They killed the Grand Valley Cardinals in a 2 in 0 swipe. Both of the games ended in the mercy rule.

” We played good as a team,” said 1st baseman, Trevor Matrisciano. Overwhelmed, Matrisciano was not sure what to say about the wins.

Shortstop Cole Steiner said, “The games were okay.”

Jose Villalpando says that he was just glad not to strike out or make any errors.

With five wins and three losses, it’s eight down, eight to go.

Basketball is over, and now our students are getting ready for Track Season! With a lot of enthusiasm, people are really excited about Track, because there is more people participating and all of them are really confident.

With different kinds of modalities the last thing athletes will need are options; They can try the running events, like long distances, short distances, relays or maybe a jumping event like the long jump, triple jump and high jump.

Track  also provide for the “strong ones”  like the discus throw and shot put.  If you are not into sports, you can still come and try it because this is a very social experience with a lot of different people and differnt things to do.

Maxime vanDijk, our exchange student from Holland, told us that she is very excited about this expirience because its her first sport in United States and she hopes to have a lot of fun. She wants to do one of the running events, but she is not sure which one.

Our editor Tala Atoafa also said that he loves track because its fun and you can hang out with a lot of people. He is going to do the running event and he expects to go to state.

Lathrop Hughes is hoping it to be fun, he wants to run the two mile distance and he is excited because its the only co-ed sport here. So hopefully Meeker Track Team will have an amazing season and go to Track state!

The Meeker girls basketball team traveled to Oak Creek Tuesday, February 22 to see who would be competing in regionals. Previously on Febuary 12, SoRoCo had traveled to Meeker, and defeated the girls 61-43.

Tuesday, the Cowboys came ready for a fight. In the first quarter the Rams kept up their game and stayed in the lead, but by the second quarter the Cowboys started showing SoRoCo the kind of team they really were. By the second half, Meeker caught back up and took the lead. Leading by ten they went into the fourth quarter with high spirits. SoRoCo not giving up began to catch up but slowly the clock began to run out. Two points down, on a failed last second shot, SoRoCo lost 57-55. Meeker redeemed themselves and are now off to districts!

A few weeks ago I asked a man what basketball was.

He looked at me and said,  ”Are you serious!”

So the man, frustrated, grabbed a dictionary and pointed out the word basketball and read it out loud.

This is what  the dictionary said:

Bas-ket-ball / ‘==,=/ n, often attib 1: a game played with a ball between 2 teams of 5 players, each team attempting to throw the ball through its own basket and to prevent the other team from scoring, the winner being the team that scores the most points.

Thats when I stopped him and said “NO!..thats when your wrong my friend.”The real definition for basketball is”

Bas-ket-ball / ‘==,=/ n, often attib 1: BASKETBALL, A SPORT THAT IS DOMINATED BY 5 “MEN” KNOWN AS THE COWBOYS AND THE COWBOYS CONSTANTLY THROWING THE BALL IN THE OTHER TEAMS NET AS THE OTHER TEAM STRUGGLES TO KEEP UP. THE TEAM WITH THE MOST POINTS OF COURSE WOULD BE THE COWBOYS, WINS..READ IT AND WEEP..TELL WHO EVER WROTE THE DICTIONARY TO GET HIS FACTS STRAIGHT,  BECAUSE THE COWBOYS ARE BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER!”

All newspapers have their faults, being spelling errors, grammar or even the writer.  Yet in some instances the paper may not be at fault but those who are reading it might be.

Please don’t stop reading; by no means is this article to offend you but yet to get a better grasp on what public respects, acknowledges and despises.

Sometimes what makes writing an article fun is to write about something arguable, but this  writer by no means tries to oppose the reader but make them think on a different level in which other articles have not  yet made them twist and turn.

This article is both an apology and statement to the readers of the “Cowboy Round Up”. By means of apology on my behalf and the entire journalism staff we apologize for any offensive material that was  posted recently.

On the other hand however being a journalist doesn’t mean sugar coat the truth but report the facts and what happened–not a candyland fairytale.  You the reader are what keeps the paper alive  and we greatly appreciate that more then you know. All journalists of the “Cowboy Round Up” would like to thank you for making this paper  a joy to right.

What Happened To Our Volleyball Team?

All the Meeker High School Volleyball team athletes were devastated, after playing Rangely on Tuesday. At the end of the game the varsity  score was three games to zero, Rangley. They thought they could pull through, but the opposing team beat them. Then the JV was two games to zero, Meeker finally emerged from the rest of the team and won.The Freshman team lost two games to zero. It was a heart-breaker for all the players, including Coach Christy Atwood and the rest of the coaching staff. They have been working very hard, just to get beat, but surely they can come back together and play like a team again. The Meeker Cowboys were doing very well, but they have dropped off, lets all hope that they can get it back together.

Those are some of the most extreme things that can be done on a bicycle, and that’s not even close to the things that you can see while watching these guys on your television or computer! So remember, the next time you need some entertainment turn to extreme biking!
