Do All Teenage Boys Have A Death Wish?

Even insurance companies agree, teenage boys are wreckless, fun- loving psychos.   Boys pay an average of 50% higher auto insurance than girls and surely there is a reason?  Some say it is the high levels of testosterone pulsing through our veins, others say it is our need to impress girls.  A good example of this out of control behavior was last Saturday night when two teenage boys, ages 17 and 19 blasted down from L07.  The immature, senseless young boys topped their trucks out at 110 miles an hour before slowing down for the corner up ahead but the fun did not stop there.  They made a left in town and continued their adventure toward Kum and Go where the real action went down.  The younger of the two boys, not to be outdone attempted the pass the college freshman just as a blue car blasted around the corner.   The car in the other lane was going way too fast for the conditions forcing the 17 year old to jerk the truck over in front of the other small compact truck.  The collision was avoided by mere inches.  After they arrived at Kum and Go they got out gagging and shaking from sheer nervousness.  They went inside and got some Hot Pockets.

Meeker High School Golfers

31 August 2010

“It took me seventeen years to get 3,000 hits.  I did it in one afternoon on the golf course,” said Hank Aaron explaining the difficulty of golf. This is something that the golfers of Meeker High School had accomplished to do in just a couple weeks. Since the first week of golf we have tried out for many tournaments including Battlement Mesa, Grand Junction twice, Rifle, Eagle Valley, and Glenwood. The tournament was cancelled in Grand Junction because of the weather. On Wednesday we will be traveling to Steamboat. Wish us luck! The scores were easier said than done but here they are.

Ladies and gentlemen the first day of school is done and gone and now  only one hundred and seventy some days to go doesn’t sound that long but  pace yourself, because the road ahead is quite bumpy.  With the football season roaring up and the first game on Saturday September 4th just around the corner, Mr. Palmer is  sure to have them off to a great start.  OF course though we cant forget about Cross Country runners ( whooooo) their first meet in Delta on September 3rd. Meeker’s expert golfing team travels to Steamboat on the 8th of September. Last but certainly not least  the volleyball girls have the Glennwood  tournament to start of the season on September 3rd through the 4th. Lets wish them good luck in there endeavours.

Can the Meeker Volleyball team go all the way? Until last Saturday morning, beginning at 9:00 am these athletes practiced long and hard for the scrimmage. As these players  brought there game against Moffat County, and Grand Valley they noticed some weak spots that need to be improved, as well as getting the feel of how a real game should be played. Due to their loss of their head coach, Meeker’s varsity team still held their end of the stick, they stuck to their strategies and won! The junior varsity team showed what it takes, including the freshmen getting great serves and blocks, letting the other team see what a real volleyball team looks like. Now as we speak the whole Meeker Volleyball team is working out the kinks in there routines to improve their playing. Hoping that the Volleyball team will hold out their winning streak throughout the whole season then they will go all the way.

(There are no scores to post as scores are not kept in scrimmages.)

First Day Of School

With all the chaos from student council elections from the previous year the students of Meeker High School were anticipating the new year.  Walking through the front doors on the first day was like walking on eggshells. Seeing old faces and new ones as well. “Stupid Freshmen,” upperclassmen Lani Mataia said as the freshmen class kept flooding in.  It had seemed that they had overtaken the school, but that was not the case. For most of the freshmen it was a new school, new people, and new teachers.  This would be a long school year.

Though it was hectic in the morning while waiting for the doors to the gym to be opened, the day started off as sweet as can be. We started with our little school rally in the gym. As Mr. Henderson, Principal, was introducing the teachers you could hear the students hooping and hollering for their favorite teachers. After the  rally we broke into our class meetings in which we voted on our class president, vice president, treasurer,  secretary and two student reps.

As the day kept moving on the upper class men found themselves being tour guides to the new freshmen, telling them where their classes are and where the cafeteria is. At lunch most the freshmen took advantage of the school’s open campus.  As the wave of high school student rushed into Watt’s at lunch the employees were ready, gladly serving all the students with a big smile on their faces.

As we all crowded into the auditorium for our awards assembly everyone was ready for the school day to be done. Finally the sweet sound of Mr. Henderson releasing the student body was heard. And everyone was gone. The first day was over and we could all put it behind us.
